It’s spring… which means college decisions for seniors. Lots of seniors are coming to their final decisions about colleges, and some of the football players at GHS are deciding to stick with their football career as they head to college.
Most of them are staying close to home.
“I’m going to Whitewater, and I will be majoring in finance,” senior Bradley Moraza said. “I chose Whitewater because I really liked the coaches and the campus was really nice.”
A few of the boys plan to stick together through college, but are also excited to meet new people along the way.
“I’m going to UW Stevens Point, and I plan on majoring in natural resources,” senior Trevor Picago said. “I’m most excited to keep playing football, and making new friends.”
Senior Sawyer Hakow is going to Stevens Point as well. “I will be majoring in natural resources,” Hakow said.
Many of the boys have an idea of what colleges are looking for when choosing where to go as a player.
“I think colleges are looking for players who are reliable and mesh in with the rest of the team and culture they’ve built,” Hakow said.
Senior Landon Lopez is going to UW-Oshkosh. “I will be majoring in finance, and I wanted to keep playing in college because of my love for the game and the connection with the team,” Lopez said.
Senior Greyson Doersching is also going to UW-Oshkosh. “I’m most excited to play football at a higher level because of the competition and also to friends who come with football,” Doersching said.
Lopez offers other ideas. “I think colleges want a player who shows leadership traits and someone whose game will transfer to the next level,” Lopez said.
Picago agrees. “Colleges are looking for a player that wants to win and will work to do anything to succeed,” he said. “Football is the reason I wanted to go to college. It is a motivator for me and teaches discipline and hard work.”
