Students have been searching the building for eggs that contain prizes sponsored by the Sources of Strength peer leaders. They came up with the idea for the spring egg hunt because they are in the middle of a mental health campaign. They thought it would be a mood-boosting activity and something fun to do as we get close to the end of school. The Sources of Strength mental health campaign has many parts, and this is just one aspect.
“Students who found pastel eggs had a sticker and a piece of candy in the egg, golden eggs had a note to go to Ms. Erickson’s office, and she had gift cards from Chick-fil-A, Crave, and Starbucks,” sources of strength advisor Jessica Holschbach said.
The student leaders explain how this activity was inspired.
“Sources wanted to develop an activity that increases the morale and joy of students. We came up with the egg hunt because it’s interactive and exciting,” junior Naima Rewolinski said. “We hope it builds connections throughout our community so that our peers can achieve a common goal of finding the eggs.”
Lead adult advisor for the egg hunt, Emily Erickson, thinks it’s going great.
“For us adult advisors, it’s great to see students smiling and eager to have fun! I think this will be something to be continued in the years to come. Our hope for the future is that students can play with integrity and contribute to a positive school climate,” she said.
The eggs had different prizes, while the golden egg had the biggest prize.
“On Thursday, I found the golden egg in the office in the mouth of the panther statue, and it had a $10 gift card to Crave. I liked the egg hunt; it was fun, especially with friends,” senior Isaiah Nickel said.
Other students spent time before school or during passing period finding eggs.
“I found one egg on Thursday during passing period in the divot in the wall,” junior David Lunar said. “It had Nerds candy inside.”
Students overall had a positive experience with the egg hunt.
“I think it’s fun because we’re just looking around the school, and it’s something to do besides school work,” senior Aiden Warwick said.
The Sources of Strength peer leaders wanted to bring joy and uplift peers by having everyone engage in something positive and fun.
