The team has been prepping and going hard at practice, and their results reflect their hard work. The team’s biggest test so far was indoor conference at New Berlin West.
Junior Sebastian Langenfeld finished 4th in the 400, but he thinks he could have done a lot better.
“I’m not thrilled with my 57.7 at the New Berlin West meet. I know I could’ve run faster on a track where you can wear spikes. It was nice to race again, though after not being able to for a few months because of a hamstring injury,” he said.
Junior Addison Patneade finished 3rd in the 800-meter, with a time of 2:36.73.
“I think my performance was alright, but I could’ve performed better. It is tough to run on their track, as it is a no-spike track,” she said.
The outdoor season began on April 19 and the team was excited to get out there and compete.
“I am excited to be outside and compete, but a little nervous because that means Sectionals are closer,” Patnaude said. ”My goal for the season is to make it to state, and I think that is very obtainable. I just have to keep working and perform well at sectionals. My favorite event is the 800 because there is a lot of strategy, and that is the event I am hoping to make it to state for.”
There were a few good performances at the Mondo Invitational meet hosted by West Allis Hale on April 19. It was a big meet, so it was hard to place. The girls’ 4×100 team placed 4th, with freshman Rylie Gleesing, Aviana Jones, Sariah Johnson, and senior Lauren Alenius all leading the charge.
“I think we performed pretty well in our 4×100. I think we just need to work on our handoffs more,” Alenius said.
Senior Nolan Wozniak is the leader of the distance group, and he is looking to improve throughout the season.
“My goals for the season are to get low 2 min to sub 2 in the 800m run and to be sub 4:30 in the 1600m.” He said
At the Wisconsin Lutheran meet on April 26, Patnaude had another good performance, getting 5th in the 800-meter run. In the boys 800-meter, Langenfeld ended up getting 6th, and Wozniak ended up in 7th.
