Six Flags is set to open its doors, offering students a much-needed escape with thrilling rides and attractions. After a long school year, it’s the perfect opportunity to unwind, enjoy the company of friends and family, and experience the adrenaline rush that only a place like Six Flags can provide.
“My favorite memory is going with all of my friends and waiting in line for the Big Drop because it was all of our first time going on that ride so we were all scared,” senior Thomas Gozdowiak said.
Many students have been going for years and have lots of memories.
“One of my favorite memories is when my brother dropped his phone off a ride and he didn’t get it back,” freshmen Mason Ramirez said.
Many teachers also went as kids.
“My favorite memory is going to Six Flags in high school with my poms team. We had a competition there and after we all stayed to go on the rides. I don’t like rides anymore, but I would love it if they set up a bunch of massage chairs for old people! Ha ha,” language teacher Jennifer McCauley said.
Everyone has their favorite ride.
“My favorite ride at Six Flags is American Eagle because I think the design of the ride is cool. I prefer the water slides over the roller coasters. My least favorite ride is probably the Raging Bull because of the long line,” Ramirez said.
Students aren’t the only people who enjoy Six Flags. Many teachers tag along with their own kids. Social Studies teacher Nicole Mobley loves to take her kids there every year.
“My favorite ride is probably Goliath or Raging Bull,” Gozdowiak said.”
“My son loves the rides and we buy a summer pass every year so he can go with his friends whenever he wants. As I am getting older I don’t really enjoy going anymore and I get motion sickness now but maybe I’ll still tag along with my son and husband this year to enjoy the food and the weather,” Mobley said.
McCauley looks back on her trip when she was in 8th grade back in 1985.
“Our class went to Great America and we had a great time. I remember we all wore Hawaiian shirts. (we were dorks) I loved The Eagle and The Demon. My advice to students is to be prepared to wait in lines and if you get there when it opens I would walk all the way to the back of the park and work your way back up to the front,” McCauley said.
Six Flags is opening May 26 with new rides such as, Wrath of Rakshasa, Aquaman Splashdown and they also updated American Eagle so there is something exciting and fresh for everyone.
“I love going to Six Flags with my friends every year and it is also really nice because I get really tan. “I am not a big fan of roller coasters so I mainly just go on the teacups ride or the merry go round,” senior Sadie Pierzchalski said. “I usually just get something to eat while other people go on rides. My favorite thing to eat there is corn on the cob with lemonade or cheesy fries.”
Six Flags isn’t just for summer, during the fall time they have Fright Fest, which is basically Six Flags but with people dressed up scaring you and they have haunted houses.
“Roller Coasters is one of my favorite things ever but I think I enjoy going to Fright Fest more because the weather makes it a lot easier to wait in line and I also love getting scared and watching horror,” Gozdowiak said.
As the gates swing open, it’s clear that this season is set. With a mix of exhilarating new rides and beloved classics, there’s no better way to kick off the summer. So gather your friends, plan your visit, and get ready to create unforgettable memories.
