During teacher appreciation week, students and parents honored the dedication, hard work, and impact of teachers who shape the future by inspiring and educating children, teens, and young adults. This week serves as a reminder to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of educators in the schools.
The Greendale administration put in a lot of work last week to make all staff feel valued and respected.
“We reached out to high school students’ families and asked if they’d be willing to donate to show appreciation to our staff,” Associate Principal Jennifer Henze said. “On Monday every staff member got a golden egg, on Tuesday we got food and drink donations to give to staff, and then on Wednesday we provided the staff with a taco bar for lunch.”
Teacher appreciation week had a positive effect on teachers.
“The impact of the positive notes and actions is huge, especially at the end of the year,” teacher Sarah Walczak said. “I can feel tired and a little grumpy at the end of the year, but the positivity gives me a boost and helps me make it to the end of the year and show up as my best self each and every day.”
Students are a huge part of showing appreciation to teachers too, not just the administration.
“Last week I said Happy Teacher Appreciation week to all my teachers, and telling them how much I truly appreciate them and what a great teacher they are,” junior Raymond Johnson said.
Other students showed their gratitude through actions as well.
“Last week I was trying to participate more in classes that I usually wouldn’t participate in. I feel like it’s a nice and simple way to show teachers you actually care about what they’re saying, instead of talking with my friends or sitting on my chromebook,” sophomore Claire Hegedus said.
Teachers appreciated the smaller gestures rather than the food.
“The best part is getting notes and cards that students write. After students were given time to write on postcards during advisory, the cards were delivered to us. I have them on my desk and they also are my background on my computer. They make me smile and feel great,” science teacher Julie Hahm said.
Teacher appreciation week is a wonderful opportunity to recognize and celebrate the incredible impact that educators have on our lives and the community. The smallest gesture can go a long way.
