Six DECA students recently attended Nationals in Florida and had a great time.
The competition was intense for the students. Senior Laney Eggert and junior Eva Sula competed in the Integrated Marketing Campaign – Service competition.
“It’s very competitive at ICDC and way harder to place. Mine and Laney’s presentation went well, but we didn’t place,” Sula said.
Juniors Jack Grunske and Noah Tomson also competed.
“Grunske and I participated in the SBE Academy, which is a workshop about school stores, and we learned a lot about what other schools do to be successful during the school year (one school made a credit union!),” Thomson said.
A fun part of going to Nationals in Florida is that students get to go to Disney.
“My favorite part of Disney was actually what we did at Universal. We went on the Veloci Coaster–per Jack’s recommendation–and it turned out to be one of the most immersive rides I had ever been on. Consolation to Epcot’s cultural walk, which was also immersive and had great food,” Thomson said.
“My favorite part about Disney was trying different foods from a bunch of countries and the Guardians of the Galaxy ride,” Sula said.
DECA is a student business organization, where students challenge their abilities to talk with other students whom they have never met before and practice their business skills.
Sula encourages students to join.
“Kids should join DECA because competitions are genuinely so fun. You can go to places like the Dells, Madison, Florida, California, and more. During competitions, you have so much free time to do a bunch of fun things,” Sula said.
Thomson agrees that it’s fun.
“I think kids should join DECA because it is undoubtedly the best way for students to become prepared for business in college,” Thomson said. “The opportunities that DECA opens to students cannot be understated, and the community of not just Greendale DECA, but WI DECA, is very welcoming and enticing for anyone who wants to ‘Be the One.”
