Every year, the Met Gala turns the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City into a dazzling stage of fashion, creativity, and celebrity culture. Held on the first Monday in May, the event is often called fashion’s biggest night.
“My favorite celebrity outfit was Nicki Minaj’s look. It went well with the theme,” junior Derek Coatzozon said.
The 2025 Met Gala theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired dramatic looks, time-traveling fashion, and futuristic twists on classic styles. Celebrities, designers, and even athletes showed up in eye-catching gowns, suits, and costumes that pushed the limits of imagination and style.
Some celebrities who showed up were Rhianna, Zendaya, Lewis Hamilton, Usher, Kylie Jenner and many more notable people.
“One celebrity that didn’t show up but I wanted to see was Pedro Pascal,” social studies teacher Cheryl Kingma-Keikhofer said.
But the Met Gala isn’t just about fashion it’s also a fundraiser. The event supports the Costume Institute at the Met, helping preserve historical fashion and fund future exhibitions. Tickets to the gala cost tens of thousands of dollars, and the event raises millions each year.
While most of us will never attend the Met Gala, it’s still exciting to watch from afar. It reminds us that fashion is more than clothes. It’s art, culture, and self-expression all rolled into one.
