As the school year comes to an end, students are excited for summer, but have to cram in extra studying for the upcoming exams. Exams begin on Friday June 6 starting with hours 1, 2 and 7. They then continue on Monday June 9 with hours 3 and 4, and lastly Tuesday with hours 5 and 6.
Most students are excited about the new policy where they are able to exempt exams depending on their pre ACT or ACT scores.
“I did well on my science and reading pre ACT, so I will be choosing to exempt my science and US study exams,” sophomore Alexandra Alcorn. “It was really easy for me since they are both already my two strongest subjects, so I thought to keep the stress of extra studying out of the way and to just not do those ones.”
While some students are able to exempt certain exams, others were not able to achieve it.
“I’m really bummed about not being able to exempt any of my exams,” freshman Chace Pacheco said. “The school should really make a new rule that you are able to choose up to maybe two classes to do for exams because they don’t realize how stressful it is for those who don’t have the skills for big testing.”
Exams can be very stressful, and use up most of one’s brain power during the last week of school. But students are doing what they can to be as prepared as they can.
“I have been studying for exams for the last month and a half I would say,” junior Larissa Espinosa said. “I do my current home work at school and then save studying for old units for after school. I do wish that teachers should have given us way more than two week for exam studying in class.”
The seniors have good advice to prepare for the exams.
“It can be can be hard to retain information studying all of your classes in one day. Instead, it is better to start studying over a week before the exams so that you can make sure you are prepared for the stuff you’re struggling with,” senior Callie Morzy said. “I also found it beneficial to ask your teachers as much as possible for help in the areas you aren’t sure you will do well in.”
