State Fair season is just around the corner, and it’s a tradition that brings people together year after year with the promise of rides, food, and unforgettable memories. For many, it’s a cherished part of Wisconsin summers.
For some fairgoers, the State Fair is the source of many family traditions.
“I love that it’s a tradition that I do with my family every year,” social studies teacher Cheryl Kingma-Kiekhofer said. “That’s my favorite thing about it—along with the SkyGlider.”
With over 25 years of visits and counting, Kingma-Kiekhofer has seen it all, including some wild food combinations.
“The donut cheeseburger with chocolate-covered bacon—that was probably the craziest thing I’ve eaten,” she said.
No trip to the fair is complete without trying something new. Everything fried is what you’ll find at State Fair. From the iconic funnel cake to deep fried oreos, you’ll have no trouble finding something delicious to try.
“I tried fried pickles, even though I hate pickles,” junior Alondra Flores said.
You can even find a new favorite dish.
“The best thing I ate was a pineapple cut in half with ice cream in it,” junior Audrey Cullen said.
Others come for the activities, such as the rides.
“My favorite thing about State Fair? The roller coasters,” junior Giddo Malley said.
Whether it’s the giant slide or a sketchy spinning ride, many people come to State Fair just for the rides.
“I come to the fair to go on rides with my friends,” Cullen said.
Beyond the food and rides, the fair offers other joys as well. For some, the livestock sections are the best part of the fair. From the pig races to just petting a cow, the livestock sections are tons of fun.
“I love seeing the sheep,” Kingma-Kiekhofer said.
Music also plays a big part in the State Fair experience.
“I saw Why Don’t We at the State Fair; it was a core memory,” Flores said.
Whether you’re there for the roller coasters, the food, the concerts, or the animals, the State Fair is a place where everyone finds their own fun.
