During the early weeks of school, many high schools host the Homecoming dance. There are many special posters and gifts that are made as a fun and creative way to ask someone as a date to the dance.
Most of the time, the proposals are made for a crush or a partner. The proposal posters are customized based on what the other person’s best hobbies or interests are. Oftentimes the ideas for the poster are found on Pinterest or a quick Google search. Sometimes the person creates their own twist to the poster to make it extra unique.
Sophomore Caiden Allison asked junior Ellie Ritchie at her home with a poster about her favorite soda.
“Ellie loves Dr Pepper so that’s what I decided to go with. I also saw some videos like it and I decided to give it my own twist.”
She was gifted a case of Dr Pepper and a poster that said “Dr Pepper Said A Dance With You Would Be My Cure To Hoco?”
Getting a Homecoming proposal makes many people feel loved and feel even more happy to attend the dance.
“I loved it. I started to tear up at the sight of him and Dr Pepper,” Ritchie said. “I thought it was very cute and it truly made my day!”
Some people’s proposals are based on similar interests. Senior Noah Crosby asked senior Bella Weber related to a video game they play.
“Me and Noah have played Fortnite together often, so my proposal made sense,” Weber said. They had a poster that said “Let’s Run Duos Fort the Nite Of Hoco!”
Some receiving the proposal anticipate for it to happen and are excited to see what was made for them.
“I felt happy and relieved because I expected it to happen. I’m happy it happened sooner than later,” Weber said.
While it is mostly done by one person, some parents or friends help assist in making the poster the best it can be for the important moment.
“It was mostly me, but my mom helped me with wording it the best,” Allison said.
If the person says yes to the proposal, they take a picture together with the sign and share it with social media or celebrate with each other or friends
