Set inside a 1920s murder mystery, the show invites audiences to expect the unexpected when props “accidentally” topple, doors refuse to cooperate, and actors “miss” their cues.
Theatre Director Shaetzke describes the play in three words:
“Mysterious, funny, and meticulous,”
Despite the planned mishaps, the cast and crew work with precision and focus on intricate details in order to make each stunt land perfectly. Senior Annie Brylow, who plays a character sharing her own name, explained the challenge.:
“It’s very choreographed, but we have to choreograph it in a way where it doesn’t look choreographed,” Brylow said.
Months of rehearsal have gone into performing the illusion of madness. Senior Camden Schilling gave insights into the collaborative process with Schaetzke.
“Mr. Shaetzke listens to all the ideas that we have about the play. He is open-minded,” Schilling said.
The Play That Goes Wrong runs Nov. 6 to Nov. 8th in the Greendale Highschool’s auditorium. The audience is guaranteed a night of laughter and surprises.
