Greendale High School Marching Band has recently started performing their fall field show, Snow Angel. They had their first of eight competitions on Sept. 6, and they will perform all across the state and Midwest, traveling to places like Whitewater, Wisconsin, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Indianapolis, Indiana.
The show this year is based on the Disney movie Frozen, where a princess, Elsa, gains magic powers in which she can create snow and ice using her hands. She runs away and is hunted down by Hans, a prince of the Southern Isles to return back to the castle. The show features music such as “Halo” by Beyoncé, and “Into the Unknown” by Gustov Holtz
“There never is a bad band show, I really like the show this year its very creative and expressive,” senior Zayd Caragena said.
The competition season this year is definitely one for the records. This year, the band is going for their 20th consecutive state title. They have worked very hard to get to where they are, and they aren’t done yet with a double competition weekend at GHS on Saturday, Oct. 4, and at Oak Creek High School on Sunday, Oct. 5. They scored an 83 and 84 at their home show and Oak Creek competition.
Band members are prepared for some long days when they have competitions.
“Competition days are normally 10 hours long for drumline. We get to the school earlier than the rest of the band. We warm up and have a full run on the back lot,” senior Lyla Gibson said.
Preparations for the show start way before the competition season even starts, with a lot of practices over the summer, and the Drumline begins their rehearsals in February While they have a no turn away program, spots are limited in the drumline.
“We hold a formal one-on-one “audition” in April to touch base with each student and to see what they were able to prepare throughout the late winter/early spring months.”
