As the new school year comes around, so does another FBL season, but this year will come with some new challenges, some stacked teams, and breaking news that will be covered throughout the season.
This year’s FBL season kicked off with a draft on September 18. There are eight teams in the league this season; each team has one captain who made the team’s picks throughout the seven rounds of the draft. Although some players who were drafted to teams have already dropped out of the league due to various reasons, this has caused some problems, including leaving some teams with limited players and wasting top picks.
“It’s disappointing that they don’t know what they are missing out on, but there is always next to nothing,” Commissioner of the FBL Joey Jackowicz said.
Another problem faces the FBL this year as the new flex system only allows twenty-five people into a flex, filling up quickly and not allowing team players to get in. This resulted in a week one cancellation, as not enough members from the league were able to get into the gym flex.
“It’s unfortunate,” senior Peter Geittmann said. “I think the flex limit should be raised if possible; however, I don’t think it will be raised.”
The first games of the FBL season started this week, accompanied by some big performances and close games. This showed true with the first game of the season being the Knights VS. The Big Men. With junior Lucas Hartman showing up big for the Knights, putting up 15 points on the Big Men.
“What a performance,” Sophomore Eli Paul said. “He caught fire from beyond the arc that game hopefully we can contain him if we play him again.”
Ultimately, though, the Big Men did come out victorious, with the game ending 16-14, starting the Big Men off with a
2-0 record.
