The boys’ varsity soccer team has kicked off its season with excitement, determination, and a blend of experienced leaders and ambitious younger players. The team has been working hard in practices and early matches, aiming to improve individually while also coming together as a team.
Soccer continues to grow as one of the more popular sports in Greendale, and this year’s squad is no exception. The roster features seniors who have developed their skills over multiple years, alongside underclassmen eager to make their mark.
For senior Nemanja Ajder, this season has been significant. After years of playing at the club level, he says he has found something unique about playing in high school soccer.
“I’m having a lot of fun. I’m liking high school soccer better,” Nemanja said.
But it isn’t just the upperclassmen carrying the team’s momentum. Younger players have also stepped up, proving that the future of Greendale is bright.
Junior Adam Kias has already earned a key role in the lineup. Adjusting to the speed and physicality of varsity soccer hasn’t been easy, but Kias sees it as an opportunity to get better.
“It’s been a big leap, everything-wise; the standard level of play is higher, but it creates a competitive sense of feeling that makes you want to play better and work harder,” he said.
The varsity boys soccer team is currently 6-6 overall with a 4-2 conference record, which places them third overall in the conference. The leading top scorer of the team is Ajder with 14 goals in 12 games. The team will face Pius on Saturday at Euhlein in a very important must-win game to help get a better spot in the conference.
