The Cross Country season began over a month ago, and runners are happy and satisfied now that the new season is in full swing. They have big goals and hope to have a good season, building on last year’s success.
That includes senior Addison Patnaude, who has big aspirations for this season. She is one of the returning stars on the team.
“So far I’m doing pretty well; we are only a few meets in, but I am definitely on track for a good season,” Patnaude said. “It’s been really fun having a leadership role as captain and mentoring the younger teammates.”
In past meets, she has performed well, finishing 17th out of 101 girls in their first meet and 36th out of 118 in the 5,000-meter event at the meet on Sept.20.
On the boys’ side, another runner who has big goals for the season is senior Sebastian Langenfeld, who has been on a roll. In the meet from Sept. 20, he finished 25th out of 111 runners.
“I felt like I could’ve done way better. I am not satisfied with this performance, but it is still early in the season, and I will get better as the season goes on,” he said.
Their next meet is on Oct. 9, and the runners are looking to perform better.
“I’ve been going hard in practice and getting better, and I have high expectations for my next meet,” Langenfeld said.
But most importantly, all the runners enjoy being together and supporting each other.
“Being on the cross country team has given me so many amazing experiences and opportunities! I’ve met some of my best friends through this sport; they keep me motivated when our practices get tough and push me to do my best,” senior Mairin Nolan said.
“Cross Country has been really fun this season. The team has a lot of character and energy, which has let everyone get along, and we haven’t had anything problematic happen despite that,” senior Noah Thomson said.
