What do GHS students like to do on their time off from school? What does their ideal Friday night and Saturday look like?
The weekend is a time for students to unwind and spend time doing things they enjoy. Activities can range from relaxing at home to working or getting involved in the community. For many GHS students, weekends offer a balance between fun, rest, and responsibility.
Some students prefer to use the weekend to relax after a busy school week.
“I like to watch sports or play video games to wind down,” said senior David Acamovic.
Others use their free time in more unique ways.
Senior Sean Libal advises local political leaders on how their work can best impact children in Milwaukee County.
“Something different I do on the weekend is sometimes I go out to public hearings as part of my job,” he said.
Libal, along with a group of other students, develops policies to promote a more equitable and inclusive Milwaukee County.
Senior Josie Marshall works on weekends and participates in gymnastics not only for herself but also for kids.
“On the weekends, I work as a gymnastics coach and I teach kids skills. I enjoy it because I also do gymnastics and I know what I am doing,” she said. Others are busy with their sports on the weekends after a long week of school.
“On the weekend, I usually have soccer games for my club, SC Wave. Being able to play soccer after a long school week really helps me wind down,” junior Vincent Takawira said.
Some students enjoy catching up with their families over the weekends.
“After school, I like to do things with my family, I like to play football, soccer, and basketball with my brothers, or play pool with my dad,” freshman Moiz Waqas said.
Overall, GHS students spend their weekends in a variety of ways, from relaxing at home to taking part in activities that prepare them for the future. Regardless of how they spend their time, weekends provide students with an opportunity to recharge before the next week of school begins.
