The college football season is halfway over, and there have been many upsets and exciting games.
One team who is under performing is Penn State who won three games straight, and were ranked number two in the AP poll. But lost their last four games to Oregon UCLA, Northwestern, and Iowa. After the loss vs Northwestern QB Drew Allar suffered a season ending injury, and they also fired head coach James Franklin after the loss. “I think James Franklin should have been fired after the UCLA game,” senior Peter Geittmann said. “They shouldn’t have given him another chance” Many think the UCLA loss was huge.
“I think the UCLA upset over Penn State was the biggest upset of the season,” sophomore Eli Paul said. “After losing three straight Penn State is also the most disappointing team this year with most of their roster coming back from last year.”
Wisconsin’s season has also been a disappointment as they are going 2-5 over their first 7 games and they recently got shut out by Ohio State and Iowa. Leaving them 0-4 in conference play. They have been playing backup QB Hunter Simmons because starting QB Billy Edwards has a sprained knee
“I think Luke Fickell should be fired,” sophomore Sam Eggert said. “They should be making bowl games every year.”
On the upside Ohio State has been 7-0, as they are ranked number one team in the AP Poll since week two after beating number 1 Texas. Their defense is one of the best in the country allowing 5.8 points a game. Star receiver Jeremiah Smith has 7 touchdowns and 600 yards in six games.
“I think the Ohio State Buckeyes are gonna win the national championship,” Geittmann said, “They have the best defense in the country and the best receiver in the country.”
Another unpredictable team is Ole Miss, one of the best teams in the SEC with a 6-1 record.Ole Miss starting QB Austin Simmons has been injured but their backup has been playing like a star. They are currently ranked 8th.
“I think Ole Miss has been really surprising this season with their backup QB playing most of the year,” Paul said.
Overall the College Football season has been exciting as we’ve seen the AP Poll changing, coaches being fired, disappointing seasons, fans storming the field, and many 7 win teams, like Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Indiana and BYU.
