The Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers faced off in the 2017 MLB World Series which went to a dramatic seven games with Houston being crowned champions in the seventh game with a final score of 5-1.

The series wasn’t only very dramatic because it went to seven games. There was a total of 22 home runs hit by both teams, including seven home runs hit in game five of the World Series.

The Houston Astros franchise has changed dramatically over the past several seasons. In 2013, the Astros went 51-111. They improved that by 19 games in 2014 going 70-92. In 2015, and 2016, they finished top three in their divisions. Then in 2017, they became World Series Champions.

Houston center fielder and 2017 world series MVP George Springer explained his thoughts on the Astros growth throughout the past seasons.

“This has been a crazy journey,” Springer said in an article in Sports Illustrated. “The organization has come so far in three years, and it’s awesome to be apart of. To look back at 2014 and 2015 to now is incredible.”

Students at Greendale High School were also very engaged in the World Series.

“The Astros pitching played a big role in their success,” sophomore Samuel Muth said. “Justin Verlander pitched very well, and the Astros defensive players also played very well the whole world series and especially in game seven because they ended the game with zero errors.”

With 22 home runs being hit throughout the series, pitching became a crucial part for both teams. Because of the good pitching by the Dodgers’ bullpen, they forced a game seven, but it wasn’t enough as the Astros came out on top due to great pitching by Justin Verlander and Lance McCullers Jr.

It’s no doubt that the 2017 World Series was one for the record books. With the series going to game seven, and the most home runs being hit in World Series history, it’s not hard to understand why some, including Astros fan junior Sean Sanchez, feel this was one of the best World Series’ ever.

“It was awesome!,” Sanchez said. “I am happy for them because it’s their first World Series win ever and possibly the best World Series World Series ever. It was definitely the best offensive World Series ever.
