Greendale Girls Basketball Takes on Greenfield

The Greendale High School girls basketball teams season is underway with the team returning seven seniors. The team’s next game is tonight where they travel to Greenfield High School for their seventh conference game and 10th overall game.

Earlier this week, the Panthers traveled to play the always tough New Berlin Eisenhower Lions, and last week Friday they played the Wisconsin Lutheran Vikings.

The Panthers battled with the Vikings but unfortunately lost 32-30. Senior Annie Pulizos was the Panthers leading scorer with 10 points. On Tuesday against the Lions, the Panthers took a tough loss 66-25.

Pulizos says the team is strong in some areas, but needs to improve in others.

“We are really close as a team,” Pulizos said. “But we need to get stronger with the ball, that’s the main thing we need to work on.”

Despite the slow start to the season the Panthers still have goals for the year, and other players know of other ways the team can improve.

Sophomore Katherine Vaile discusses the team’s goals and how they can improve during games.

“We have many goals this year, but our main goal is to finish games,” Vaile said. “We need to improve by playing as a team, and finishing games and not letting the other team get in our head.”

This week Friday, the Panthers boys basketball team and girls team will play a double header against the Greenfield Hawks at Greendale High School. The girls team will play first followed by the boys team.

Senior Gina Sommerfeld likes the team’s chances because of their strong defense.

“We play a really good man to man defense,” Sommerfeld said. “We also are good at running a no position offense.”

The Panthers hope to bounce back with a win on Friday against Greenfield. According to those three players, in order to do that they must play a full game as well as execute their offense and defense.
