Eagles and Patriots battle for Championship Win in Super Bowl

After a very interesting NFL season full of season-ending injuries and former bottom teams making playoff runs, the Super Bowl is here. The New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles will face off in Super Bow LIIl on Feb. 4 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota.

The Eagles will play in their first Super Bowl since 2005 where they lost to the Patriots. The Super Bowl rematch will feature two 15-3 teams who were both #1 seeds with a first round bye in the playoffs. The Eagles playoff wins include a 15-10 win against the Falcons, and a 38-7 win over the Vikings. The Patriots playoff wins include a 35-14 win over the Titans, and a 24-20 win over the Jaguars.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson says he wants his players to get better everyday until the Super Bowl.

“The Patriots have been there before,” Pederson said in an article on ESPN. “They’ve done it. My biggest focus with the team is to focus on each and every day. Let’s get better today, let’s win today, and we’ll worry about the Patriots when we get to the game.”

Pederson is right when he says the Patriots have been to the Super Bowl before. They’ve won the Super Bowl twice in the last three years and have won five total in the last 15 years.

Despite the Patriots dominance in past years, freshman Nicholas Churchill thinks the Eagles will come out with the upset.

“I think they’re a very explosive team on both sides of the ball,” Churchill said. “I also hate the Patriots and I’m sick and tired of them winning all the time.”

The Eagles, without a doubt, showed how explosive they were this season. They went from a 7-9 record in the regular season a year ago to a 13-3 record at the end of the regular season and a first round bye week in the playoffs.

The explosiveness they showed was mainly because of quarterback Carson Wentz. He was a MVP candidate until tearing his ACL in week 14. The Eagles still had explosiveness though because backup quarterback Nick Foles stepped up and has been putting up huge numbers since Wentz got injured, getting the Eagles to the Super Bowl.

Despite the Eagles being on fire, senior Jack Ehemann still thinks the Patriots will come out on top.

“They’ve played at the stage many times before,” Ehemann said. “They’ll be more ready than the Eagles. I also think they’re just a much better team and much more experienced.”

Super Bowl LII has brought tons of excitement to football fans everywhere. It will be very exciting to see a backup quarterback from the Eagles in Nick Foles and one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time from the Patriots in Tom Brady going up against each other.
