Holiday Horror Stories

The holiday season is right around the corner.  With people celebrating with family and friends, it’s bound to always be a memorable time.  Amazing foods, fun conversations with families, receiving and giving presents.  But sometimes the holiday season can turn out to be a chaotic mess.

A lot of people celebrate the holidays, almost every family in America is either celebrating Christmas or some other traditional or religious holiday.  Junior Jenna Ridder is a big fan when it comes to Christmas time.  However, she has one memory of Christmas that she will remember forever.

“I remember one time during Christmas we were all sitting on the table eating and my uncle had this crazy dog that is always running around the table looking for food.  It ended up jumping on the table and eating a whole stick of butter.  It was the craziest thing I have ever seen in my life,” she said.  A dog eating a whole stick of butter in one bite, could any one imagine a dog doing that, or even a human?

Senior Sam Sommerfeld loves deep fried turkey.  Every year on Christmas day, he and his family would religiously deep fry a turkey every year.  On this Christmas day though, things went a little different than planned.  “I burned my hand while deep frying a turkey on Christmas day.  Very painful, yet it was a learning experience.  I will never deep fry a turkey again,” he said.

There are some conversation topics that are usually acceptable to bring up at the dinner table during a Christmas dinner, and there are some topics that are off limits..  One topic that is rarely discussed is politics because it usually causes a fire storm when it is brought up at a family gathering.

Senior Mason Stott isn’t really a big fan of talking politics, and his Christmas story will be branded in his head as being one of the worst.

“There was one time during Christmas Eve where all our family was celebrating, things were supposed to be fun this time, no arguing, we promised.  Especially about politics, that’s the worst,” he said. “My family always ends up arguing about something involving politics or the upcoming election.  This sucks because we always end up leaving early from our celebrations if things get too heated.

But this time the argument was just crazy, and it was terrible because I was the one trying to calm my liberal grandma down because she was screaming about something.  I was only about 12 and barely knew anything about politics, but I do believe that my grandma was crazy for doing that and I can’t really look at her the same way.”

At the end of the holidays, we all wish we could go back and relive it again.  Those times are the best of the year, and they are when you get to catch up with family members you haven’t seen in a while, enjoy good food, receive and give presents to loved ones, to be happy.  And just because some crazy things might happen this holiday season, doesn’t mean they won’t be a story to tell and remember forever.
