Quarantine was tough on a lot of people but everyone found something to turn to, most people turned to Netflix and to an alternate universe. One of those universes is that of the series, “The Crown.” Though “The Crown” is only a show, any viewer doesn’t have trouble getting immersed in the history of the Royal Family.

English teacher and yearbook advisor Kate Wagner started watching along with her fellow English teacher Amy Hutter. Together they shared their common interests within the show and how they felt the Royal Family was depicted throughout the four seasons.

In the early seasons, viewers are introduced to the Queen and her husband The Duke of Edinburgh. “It was so interesting!!’ Wagner said. “I knew some of their relationships but not all of the nuances. Also, the acting was amazing.”

Within the first and second season, the viewers get a chance to see what the Queens life was like while succeeding the throne at such a young age. As viewers continue to watch, they are introduced to the Queen’s sister, Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, played by Vanessa Kirby. Throughout the beginning of the show her character struggled throughout the early seasons to be accepted by her family.

The Princess family was not fully accepting of her wild spirit. “I feel so badly for her that she wasn’t able to marry the man she wanted to marry just because he was divorced,” Hutter said. “She was definitely a lot more eccentric and outgoing than the rest of them and they didn’t really understand where she was coming from.”

Throughout the show’s running the viewers are introduced to many different people. But during the fourth season released in November, fans are introduced to Diana Spencer, played by Emma Corrin, who falls in love with The Prince of Wales, portrayed by Josh O’Connor.

During the fourth season the viewers see the pair fall in and out of love throughout the season. The pair were married in 1981 and many of our teachers were able to experience a momentous event. “You feel bad for both of them,” Wagner said. “What’s interesting is we know how the story plays out. Charles was always tortured by Camilla and wanting to be with her…the family did nothing to help her.”

In the end, anyone who has watched “The Crown” has come out of the experience with more insight into what happens behind the Royal Family’s closed doors.
