In the NFL there has been some big news this off season over the past few weeks. Running back Aaron Jones re-signed with the Green Bay Packers for $48 million in four years. Defensive end J.J.  Watt Signed with the Arizona Cardinals for $35.2 million for five years. And also sadly Saints quarterback Drew Brees retired after 20 years in the NFL.

Senior Glen Rogers said that he is excited to see Jones back. “I am excited that we re-signed Aaron Jones. And the fact that he was willing to take a pay cut because he wanted to play for the Packers is really nice. I still am strongly against paying running backs. I think we paid too much but it’s exciting to see their male moves,” he said.

But Rogers does not think the Packers will sign any other big names. “The Packers have no money so I don’t see them making many more big moves. But we’ll see what happens,” he said.

Now that Jones has signed back with the Packers, running back Jamal Williams has signed with the Detroit Lions. Because of this, AJ Dillion should be getting more playing time this season

In other NFL news one of the biggest signings was J.J. Watt, who left the Texans to sign with the Arizona Cardinals.

Senior Jacob Martin is a very big Watt fan and he thinks it will be good for Watt to be on another team. “I think J.J. Watt moving to the Cardinals was a good move for him because the Texans haven’t been able to provide for great players like him, ” he said. “When I heard J.J. Watt wanted to leave. “I never really thought about what destination would be good for him. He Just needed a team that could win games and use his talents to their full potential.”

Some NFL fans were confused by this signing because they thought he would sign with the Steelers and play with his brothers Derek and T.J. or with the Packers because Wisconsin is his home state.

Drew Brees announced his retirement on March 14th by taking a video of his children announcing his retirement.

Junior Will Vaile thinks it was time for Brees to retire. “It was time for him to go. A new era of qbs is coming and he is old school and just was too old,” he said.

But Vaile said he will be remembered as a Hall Of Famer. “Drew Brees will be remembered as a great football player, he has a bunch of records but he will be remembered for being an even better man because of the way he picked up New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He will be remembered as one of my favorite players,” he said.

Now that Brees has retired James Winston could be the Saints new starting QB. Time will tell if Watt will help the Cardinals, and if paying Jones was worth it, and if the Saints can replace the well loved Drew Brees.
