Aaron Rodgers

It was a long offseason for Packers fans when some media sources announced in spring that Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers didn’t want to play for the Green Bay Packers organization anymore because Rodgers was “disgruntled with the organization.”

According to sources, Rodgers had told several teammates, including all-pro receiver Davante Adams, that he wanted out. Supposedly Rodgers believes that he was being treated unfairly for how good of a player he is.

While Rodgers hasn’t officially said anything or talked to the media about it, some fans believe that it was true and that he would for sure be gone. “I don’t know what the Packers would do without Rodgers. He’s been the MVP of this team for several years. I think he’s the best quarterback the Packers have had,” junior Ben Perleberg said.

The rumors continued to swirl when Rodgers did not show up to Packers mandatory minicamp in June and many fans lost all hope and thought that Rodgers really must not come back after his MVP season.

They were upset because of how great of a player Rodgers is and how big of a loss it would be for the organization. “It does not leave a good mark on the team. It is not good when your starting quarterback doesn’t show up to team camp, it would have been a big loss for the Packers if Rodgers were to have left or retired,” Perleberg said.

There were also ongoing rumors that Rodgers was either considering retirement or that he would join a new team, meaning the Packers would have to lean on second year quarterback Love. Many Packers fans would rather have Rodgers, but some Packers fans have high hopes and expectations for Love. “I think Jordan is the future of the team. He’s not better than Rodgers but he can for sure bring the Packers some Super Bowls,” senior Danny Hanlon stated.

After all the speculation in the offseason with Rodgers and the Packers, Rodgers ended up coming back for season 17, and while he did not start off well in the first game when they lost to the Saints, 38-3, Rodgers bounced back strong averaging 2 touchdowns per game with 10 touchdowns on the season and a 114.7 passer rating.

Packers fans were pleased to see Rodgers come back. “I’m happy Rodgers came back for a year to give it one more go. Love also needs at least one more year to develop,” sophomore Luke Trentadue said.

Some Packers fans believe this will be Rodgers’ last year, while others believe that if the Packers make a run in the playoffs or go to the Super Bowl Rodgers may stay another season. “In my opinion I think that Rodgers is done after this season. I think he’s going to retire,” sophomore Sawyer Hakow said.

“I think Rodgers will return for another season as long as the Packers do well this season, which it looks like they are, otherwise I think he will hang up the cleats,” Hanlon said.

As fans wait to see how this season plays out they will continue to cheer on the team and hope they can make it to the playoffs and a second career Superbowl for Rodgers.
