Squid Game, Netflix’s hit show, is a South Korean Horror fiction show that has been on trend this fall, and has even gotten a spot on Netflix’s number one watched in the world. Squid Game has 132 million world wide views, and has gathered a massive fan base among teenagers, parents, and even teachers. 

“I really loved this show. I loved all the different games. I always get hyped up when I hear Dystopian music. I loved the feeling of suspense that comes with the show on every episode,“ freshman Swei Sanid said.

The show centers around a contest between people who are in deep financial debt and don’t have money to pay it off. The Main character is Gi-hun and he, along with others, gets recruited to participate in this competition to win billions of Won and pay off their debt. They go to a series of games and compete against each other both Individually and in teams, making friends and enemies along the way.  

“My favorite thing about Squid Game was how the people who owned the show gave the players a second chance to get money, and how it is in an equal environment,” junior Peters, Jamison said. 

Teenagers aren’t the only ones who are enjoying Squid Game, even teachers are watching this show, and they also love it.

“I really loved Squid Game, especially the character development in the show. I will probably rewatch season 1 before season 2 comes out too. For how appropriate it is for teenagers, I would say that it is appropriate for anyone who is above 17, seniors could probably handle it, but only if they are okay with watching Gore,“English teacher Alli, Brimmer said. 

 The shows main actors/actresses are: Lee Jung Jae as Seong Gi-Hun(the main character), HoYeon Jung as Kang Sae-byeok(the girl that made it to third place), Wi Ha-Joon as Hwang Jun-Ho (the main character’s cousin) and Oh young Soo as the old man, or player number 1.

Fans are split on their favorite character because of their different personalities and some qualities that the fans love.

“My favorite character was definitely the old man, I really liked him at the beginning. And I felt really bad for him when he was ‘killed’ . I still like him even after that massive plot twist in the last episode,” sophomore Abu Awad Yousef said.

“My favorite character was Hwang Jun-Ho, the smart businessman, also known as the main character’s cousin. I really liked his smart gameplay and how he was willing to sacrifice everything to win the game,” Swei Sanid said.

“My favorite character was Abdul Ali. He seemed like a better person than the other people in the show, and I really felt for him and connected with him,” Brimmer said.

The producers at Netflix are saying that fans can look at a new season to come out in mid 2023. Most fans cannot wait for a new season because they want to know what the main character will do, and how he will stop another game from taking place. 

“I can’t wait for a new season. I feel like the second season will be very interesting considering what happened at the end, where the guy decides to not get on the plane and go try and stop the new game.” sophomore Abdelrahman Shady said.

Squid game has made a massive impact on people world wide, people from every country have watched the show, and it has given a lot of people something to connect to and talk to others about. The world now has to wait for a whole new season.
