Student Council has been working hard all year to organize fun events and activities such as Homecoming and spirit weeks.

Recently they put together a winter spirit week with the themes of: Monday – PJ day, Tuesday – teacher’s favorite color, Wednesday – workout clothes, Thursday – white out blizzard day, and Friday – holiday sweater day.

This was planned by the Student Council events committee and the themes were chosen by both the Buddy Club and Student Council. “We wanted to do a spirit week to allow students to have some fun in school before they went on break,” senior Student Council member Dev Patel said.

Students enjoyed dressing up on the different days. “Pajama day was my favorite because I got to be comfy all day long,” senior Danijela Gallo said.

Along with the spirit week they also put together a toy and food drive. They collected 10 bags of food for the St. Alphonsus’s food pantry. “The toys we collected were donated to the Salvation Army. Over 60 toys were donated and were given to children and families as gifts for the holidays,” Student Council adviser Lucy Siepler said.

There have been many rumors going around about whether winter formal will be happening this year, and at this time there is no definite answer. “If we are not able to hold a winter formal dance, it will be that Covid-19 and its variants are still too active and the Health Department may deem it unsafe to have a dance indoors,” Patel said.

Another event that the Student Council runs is blood drives. They do these drives throughout the year and anyone over the age of 18 or 16 with parent permission can donate.

The next one is coming up on Wednesday, Jan. 26th and will be held in the upper gym. “Students should donate because this is a great way to give back to the community! Your blood can help those in need, and might even save a life,” sophomore Student Council member Kennedy Kapocius said.

Students can expect some more fun events and spirit weeks coming up as the Student Council is planning lots of activities including Prom!
