The school year is coming to an end very soon, but not for everyone. Some people are taking classes in the summer.

GHS offers classes so that students don’t have to take them during the school year like health, physical education, and economics, which is taught by social studies Nicole Mobley. “I usually do not teach, and this summer will be the first time that I will be teaching Economics,” Mobley said.

Junior Matthew Hernandez got ahead by taking summer gym. “I took gym in the summer so I could get ahead and not have to sweat during school in gym class,” Hernandez said.

Junior Khalid Saleh is also hoping to get ahead.” I am trying to get ahead on my credits, so that I can finish school early and graduate early after the first semester,” Khalid said.

Other students that are in summer school are there for credit recovery because some students fall behind in school while trying to focus on their outside lives like work, family and friends.

Some credit recovery classes are English 9, Global Studies, English 10/11, US History, Chemistry recovery and Physics recovery. “I only have to take Algebra 2 in the summer if I fail, but I’m really trying to bring my grade up,” an anonymous junior said.
