Cheer and Poms Perform for the Last Time at State

Cheer and Poms Perform for the Last Time at State

This year both the Cheer and Poms teams headed to State on the same weekend to conclude the 23-24 season. They both had a successful competition season, with Poms being named Best in the Midwest and Cheer and Pep Band coming home as National Champions.

The Poms competed at Badgerette for the Wisconsin Spirit Championship, placing first in small poms, and kickline. They also placed third in hip hop. Senior Abby Hajewski got first in a Pom solo, and junior Gabi Trauberman got 3rd in a Pom solo.

This year the girls have worked very hard for all of their accomplishments. “I love this competition because it feels like a showcase for our hard work over the season rather than a huge competition. My last season wasn’t exactly what I was expecting but our team worked so hard this year,” senior Kennedy Kapocious said.

Most of the girls cannot wait till next year to get to learn more routines with their team. With the senior girls leaving there will be 6 amazing dancers left on the team. They will start to prepare for their season by starting with tryouts and then practicing almost everyday in the summer.

In one of the toughest divisions competing against D1 schools with a lot of talented athletes, Greendale Cheer took home fourth place at WACPC. This competition is the Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom coaches.

“I think it was better than most of our states in the past, but it was mostly just sad, because during the routine I was trying to make it the best I could because it was the last time performing,” senior Lilly Pogorzelski said.

This year the seniors on cheer had a phenomenal season leading this team.  “Being able to win a National title for our school and GVC legacy was an incredible experience,” senior Ayanna Lapointe said.

Each year cheer introduces the new season by having a “play date”. This allows all new GHS girls to try cheer in a friendly environment before tryouts. Cheer tryouts are the second week in May, and the season starts from there.

“I am most excited to see who joins our team next season and what our routine will look like,” junior Anna Baxter said.

Now that this season is over the girls are getting ready for next season.
