A recurring topic of interest around the class of 2026 is having their Junior meetings. Lasting about a half hour to 45 minutes, this occurs with a student, their parent and/or guardian, and their guidance counselor. These meetings are deemed to be important for all juniors for many reasons.
“We will do a transcript review and discuss what your senior schedule could look like. We want students to take meaningful courses in their senior year that will bridge them to their post secondary institution,” guidance counselor Christopher Muench said. “After that we’ll look at career and college options that the student is interested in. Lastly, we will cover the timeline and items needed for application season.”
With many students having their meeting over the last few weeks, most have found the experience very helpful.
“The meeting most helped me see my options for next year’s classes and what I should take for what I want to do in life,” junior Marquis Norris said.
With the three counselors Trish Matlock, Christopher Muench, and Dani Young having done hundreds of junior meetings in the past, they simplify the situation for students and help them build a strong base for their future.
“My counselor was most helpful in making sure to present all my options and making sure I understood everything,” junior Myles Kimmins said.
With lots of students not having a meeting scheduled yet, the three counselors are understanding of everyone’s situation and are willing to help.
“I think a lot of juniors are unsure of what their options are after they leave GHS,” Muench said. “It’s a big decision to make, and most students aren’t quite sure what the best area of study will be for them. If you have not scheduled your Junior Meeting yet, it would be best to simply contact your counselor to set one up.”
