Dylan Hagedorn is a senior here at GHS and he is involved in many activities, such as G-Harmony, Choir, theatre, Educators Rising, Sources of Strength, and Student Equity Team. He enjoys all of them but he does have his favorites.
“I spend the most time with G-Harmony, Choir, and Theatre, so those tend to be my favorites and what I am most dedicated to,” he said. “Currently in G-Harmony we are preparing for ICHSA, the competitive realm of high school a cappella. In theatre we are preparing for The Addams Family. I participated in William Shakespeare, Legally Blonde, A New World, Footloose, and the Starcatcher. In choir we are preparing for the Pops concert later next month.”
As a second semester senior, his future is very important around this time. Even though Hagedorn is very busy with extracurricular activities he is also preparing for his future with AP classes.
“I am taking 2 AP Classes this year: AP Bio and APGAP. This is a much more manageable amount, as I took five last year,” he said. “I have always tried to earn as many college credits as possible in high school. It is nice to save time, money, and just have a nice feeling of accomplishment by the end of the semester.”
With all of the difficult classes Hagedorn has taken, he can easily accomplish his priorities for college, where he plans to attend UW-Eau Claire.
“I have been to the campus a few times and I think it is beautiful. It is the perfect distance for me, since I can easily drive back home for the holidays to spend time with my family and siblings, but far enough away that it will be a new, fun fresh start for me,” he said. “I am planning on double-majoring in Biology Teaching and Psychology. I have wanted to become an educator since I was little, so this was a pretty clear decision for me that I am very excited for! Some of my favorite classes in high school have been Bio and AP Psych, so that led me to want to teach those topics!”
Hagedorn has taken many classes that are not all related to each other and show how creative he is and loves to explore his choices and what he likes to do.
“Obviously, my favorite class has been choir – so besides that, my favorite and most interesting class I have taken so far has been AP Psych. I think that human Psychology is so interesting and it is quite fun to try and see the concepts we learned in class happen everywhere around me, which is not something you can usually do with the information you learn in most high school classes,” he said. “It is very applicable to everyday life, and I highly recommend the class for anyone who is interested in social science, the human body, or just interested in learning more about how your mind works.”
After being in high school for four years Hagedorn has experienced and has learned a lot. He made many great memories with everything he has done for GHS.
“My favorite memory of high school has to be my first choir concert. I have been in choir since 5th grade, but it felt so much more real, especially coming out of doing 8th grade virtual for a whole year,” he said.”
He has some advice for underclassmen.
“One piece of advice I have for underclassmen is to learn how much you can take on. Make sure to join activities, take classes out of your comfort zone, and try new things! I am so happy I got involved in the activities I participate in. I met so many new friends and got tons of opportunities I wouldn’t have imagined if I didn’t put myself out there and join things! In terms of classes, only take study halls if you need them,” he said. “ There are tons of fun classes to take, where you may not get to experience these communities or learn these things when you are a graduate and an adult. Take advantage of classes and clubs while you can, while also balancing your life! Also, Join Choir!”
