Nicholai Galusha is a senior here at GHS and he is involved in many extracurricular activities, such as class representative in the Student Council for four years and as the treasurer for two years. Galusha also served as the Class of 2025 Representative on the Greendale Board of Education and Galusha has performed in various musical ensembles such as G-Harmony, and band.
He has also been a part of groups such as Sources of Strength and National Honor Society.
He earned two varsity letters on the GHS Boys Tennis Team and ran one season of cross country this past Fall.
“Having a very busy schedule from the start of high school was difficult at first but it became easier as I got used to the schedule and learned better ways to manage my time. I love a well organized Google Calendar,” Galusha said.
With all of the classes and activities Galusha has been involved in, he can accomplish his priorities for college easily. Galusha has been accepted into many colleges, his top choice is University of Michigan, but he is still waiting to hear back from various colleges like Georgetown, Vanderbilt, and Harvard. He is planning on majoring in STEM.
“I see myself continuing to follow my passions and creating unique opportunities. While the end goal is unknown, I know that the path there will be great if I can continue what I am doing now. While in high school,” he said. I’ve been fortunate to do things like perform in New York City in front of millions of people, win a national championship, serve in many positions of leadership, and meet the President of the United States, a Justice of the Supreme Court, and members of Congress in the District of Columbia. Although it may be hard, the goal is to not peak in high school!”
As a senior in the second semester students start to think a lot about their future and Galusha has been preparing for this moment for a long time and receive scholarships to help out.
“I have received the Chick Evans Scholarship, which is a full tuition and housing scholarship. I have also received a scholarship from the U.S. Senate and from the Elks’ Most Valuable Student Competition,” Galusha said.
Galusha has taken many classes throughout the past four years, and every student has to have a favorite class.
“My favorite academic class was Film and Literature with Ms. Wagner. It counted for high school credit I needed to graduate, I got college credit, I got to watch movies four days a week, and she let me keep soda in her minifridge. What else can a student ask for?” he said.
High School has been very important to Galusha, he has done a lot for us students and staff. Galusha has created the courtyard as his Eagle Scout Service Project and it is a wonderful way to leave his legacy. School is not all Galusha is though. Galusha enjoys playing guitar for my church and participating in some service activities outside of school. Finally, Galusha has worked year round as a server/carryout staff. It has been a busy four years!
“In my free time I enjoy reading, making music, and watching YouTube on my TV. The $7.99 I spend each month to have no ads is worth it every month. This summer, I will be working, performing music with my band, and preparing to move to college in August,” Galusha said. “I’ve grown much stronger in my faith and realized the importance it has in life, even as a young person.”
As the school year is coming to an end, Galusha has some piece of advice for everyone.
“It is important to become involved in the community and make connections that can help you along the way. If you want something done quickly, do it yourself, if you want something done well, work with others. As the age-old adage goes, ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’.”
