Many 16 year olds have been waiting for this day to come. The day they finally become independent and grown. The horrors of asking your mom or dad for a ride to go places has finally ended, and their driver’s license is in hand.
But with having a license there comes a huge responsibility.
“I got my licence about three months ago, and just totaled my car last weekend due to bad weather conditions,” sophomore Pavle Dragicevic said.
Getting a license starts with online classes.
“The hardest part about driver ed was trying to keep up with all the online courses, because they were super time consuming and boring,” sophomore Kenzie Brewer said.
Some students have different techniques to get it done faster.
“If you don’t put it off and keep doing two lessons a day (which is the limit) it goes by way quicker and that’s how I got it done so fast so it wasn’t as time consuming,” junior Gianna Anaya said.
“When I’m not feeling motivated and I wanna get my stuff done, I go upstairs and sit on my couch and do my just driving. This helps me finish it faster because I am dialed in,” Brewer said.
Some students think it was really worth taking all those long classes.
“I’m very excited to have my license and have the freedom to leave my house whenever I’m ready, so I don’t have to find a ride anymore,” sophomore Georgia Pluer said. “It’s hard to get to places when you have two other younger siblings who can’t drive, so my parents are constantly running around trying to get us to places, so having my license makes things 10 times easier.”
Although students are very excited about being able to drive, it is one of their parents biggest fears.
“At first my parents were really strict about where I drove my car and how late I stayed out,” sophomore Daniel Vekic said. “They calmed down a bit after I’ve had it for a couple months but they were just worried about me crashing or worse, me dying.” Vekic said.
Being able to sit behind the wheel and feeling a sense of responsibility is a breath of fresh air.
