Only two years after it opened, Milkcan Diner closed on Sunday, Oct 1, leaving many in shock and wondering why.
Freshman Tiffani Galusha, a hostess who worked with her twin sister at Milkcan for about 8 months, will miss Milkcan.
“I was really disappointed to hear Milkcan was closing because over these 8 months it kinda became like a second home to me. I’m friends with all my coworkers there and it will be hard to say goodbye,” she said. “Going to work, unlike most jobs, was something I looked forward to too, talking to my friends there and having fun. I am sad to see Milkcan go.”
Senior Greyson Danford went to Milkcan Diner about three times over the summer so when Milkcan closed he had a lot to say. “I miss Ferchs and the atmosphere of the restaurant,” he said. “I feel like Milkcan was too much of a sit-down restaurant which made it hard to go to and just grab a burger and walk around,”
Former employee junior Noeli Schutten shares her feelings on Milkcan closing.
“Personally, it is sad to see the place go,” Schutten said. “I think part of why they are closing is the circumstances of management.”
Senior Ellie Myers has worked there since they opened back in 2021.
“I was completely heartbroken, our manager told us the Saturday before. It came as a shock to most of us. We all just started crying and hugging each other,” she said. “Most of us consider each other family for how much we all get along and have been working together for so long, I was devastated.”
Myers wasn’t that surprised that it closed, “Some of us had thoughts about it closing in the past due to how many Friday and Saturday nights we were so mellow. I think the amount of people not coming in is what really came down to us closing down. Yet we had so many come in this week and ask why we closed, yet they would never come in before they found out we were closing,” she said.
Overall people including the staff will miss Milkcan Diner. Although it was short-lived, many people have good memories of the restaurant and even though it is gone now it will never be forgotten in the hearts of many in Greendale and there is still the location in Muskego to visit.
