Zayd Cartagena is a senior here at GHS. Cartagena is involved in many extracurricular activities, such as Student Council, DECA, Student Equity Team, and Model UN.
His favorite club that he is in is the Student Council, “I like this club because I have the biggest role in that club, and I really enjoy doing all the activities for the club,” Cartagena said.
As a senior he is constantly applying to colleges. The top schools he’s applying to are UW Madison, the University of Illinois Chicago, Central Florida, and South Florida. “I am planning on majoring in business and international marketing on a pre-law track,” Cartagena said.
Throughout his years at GHS he has tried many classes but a few of them stuck out to him. “My favorite class has been sociology because I think learning about society is cool,” Cartagena said. “I feel like the things I learn in that class also benefit my future a lot. I would say my toughest class is math because I’m not the best at it, and it goes by fast,” he said.
With all of Zayd’s extracurriculars, he has many memories throughout all of his high school years to look back on.
“I have lots of memories, but I would have to say that my favorite memory was going to California my sophomore year for DECA state,” he said. “I also really enjoyed this year’s homecoming a little more than the rest. It was really fun to see it all unfold from the student council meetings to the night of the dance.”
Outside of school, Cartagena likes to hang out with his friends and family, go to the gym, concerts, go thrifting, and work.
“I work at Tuckaway Country Club, and I really like it there because I like being a busser,” Cartagena said.
He spends lots of his time with many of the lower-classmen. As a senior he has many useful pieces of advice to give them for the upcoming years.
“Some advice I give to lower-classmen is to pay attention and join a lot of clubs because it matters once you become an upperclassman. going to the gym and going to concerts, and hanging out with friends. To keep working hard in my classes, finish applying to colleges, and have fun,” Cartagena said.
