Yellowjackets season three recently premiered and fans of the show have been excited to watch the new season that illustrates hardships through friendships, and survival, but aslo has a dark, on edge feeling to the viewers.
The show follows a high school girls’ soccer team whose plane crashes in the middle of nowhere out in a deep forest. The show bounces back between two timelines. One timeline is in the 1990s right after the crash where it shows the survivors facing harsh conditions that test their friendships.
The other timeline is modern day, now that the survivors are adults and have to live with their trauma and the secrets that come back to haunt them. Each of the survivors is affected differently and copes with the crash in different ways. They have to decide between continuing to keep their secrets hidden or let the truth come out.
Seeing the two timelines gives me two different perspectives. I have two opinions on the same character because while they might act one way in the wilderness, they can also be completely different years later.
Shauna is one of the main characters who is very resourceful and is able to adapt. On the other hand, Shuana can be very controlling and bossy, which leaves a bad feeling for the other survivors. Another character is Natalie, and she was very protective and had good instincts while being out in the forest, but during the present day, Natalie has a hard time coping with the trauma and resorts to substance abuse. Each character is unique in their own way, with how they react being out in the wilderness and dealing with the trauma.
Juliette Lewis is the adult actor for Natalie and she does a great job portraying someone who goes through severe trauma and has negative effects from it.
Another actor is Steven Krueger and he plays Coach Scott. Coach Scott is the only adult that is out in the wilderness. The actor does a good job showing how the pressure can affect the minds and lead to fight or flight decision making.
Some things that viewers might not like about the show are how it can be too disturbing. There are a lot of scenes that can be hard to watch. Others may think that the show is way unrealistic and think that some of the decisions the characters make are not likely. Although I think that the whole point of the show is that there are a lot of unknown, weird, and creepy experiences and that’s what makes it good.
In season two of Yellowjackets, the survivors are still out in the forest trying to survive during the winter, doing anything they can to not lose their lives. They are now facing bigger challenges than before, with tension and fear rising between the girls, after the crash has taken a major toll on their physical and mental health. The isolation and the psychological effects on some of the survivors take a dark turn. In the present day of season two the adults face consequences from their past trauma. The tension is still there between the girls and some of the secrets are uncovered from their time in the forest. The survivors then have to address what really happened.
Yellowjackets is a great show for viewers who like unexpected plot twists along a creepy and disturbing feeling, but also makes fans want to know more and more.
Season three of the show picks back up in the wilderness, but this time it is spring. Meanwhile, in the present they are still dealing with the evil from the forest.
