Now that it’s getting warmer, the countdown to the start of track season is around the corner. There’s some big aspirations on the team to achieve some big goals and conquer old personal records. The team works hard every day to get better and nothing about that will change this upcoming season.
As the hype builds up, athletes hope to reach new heights in the big meets.
“I want to qualify for sectionals this year,” junior high jumper Mason Beaumont said. “I was very close last year and I think I can make it if I put in enough work during practice.”
Other athletes would like to set some big PR’s in their events and set new standards for themselves.
“This year I hope to achieve a 1:55 in the 800 meter and a 49.0 in the 400 meter dash,” senior runner Sebastian Langenfeld said. “I want to get off on a good foot before running track in college, and if I run those times, hopefully I get a better chance of running early in big meets in college.”
“My biggest obstacle has definitely been injury,” senior runner Addison Patneaude said. “I was unable to finish my last two seasons due to injuries, and I feel like it has set me back on training and impacted my confidence.”
To be an elite athlete, it takes a lot of preparation and hard work in the offseason. Many athletes on the Greendale track team do some type of off season training.
“I am a part of an AAU running club and I go to a trainer,” senior captain Sean Libal said. “They have been helping me get faster and I have improved a lot over the past few months. I feel stronger than I have ever been for a track season and I’m excited to see the results when the season starts.”
The season officially starts on March 9 and they have their first meet at New Berlin West on March 18.
Be sure to keep up with the track team throughout the season and wish them luck as regionals and sectionals slowly start to creep up.
