The Varsity Baseball team ended their regular season with a 10-16 record, and won two games in the playoffs before getting eliminated by New Berlin Eisenhower 11-0. Lots of improvement was seen throughout the season and the future looks very promising for the team.
The team ended the regular season winning four in a row against Wauwatosa West, Waukesha South twice, and Milwaukee Reagan, but lost their last three games, twice against Pewaukee and to Oak Creek.
Players believe the team improved throughout the season.
“I really like how our team developed this season,” sophomore Diego Zavala said. “The coaches have done a great job in helping us become better players.”
The Panthers held a Teacher Appreciation night at their game against Milwaukee Reagan, where players were able to be represented by a teacher of their choice. Senior night also took place against Pewaukee where seniors Peter Geittmann and Zach McNulty were acknowledged.
“It was great to be honored at senior night, and the teacher appreciation night was very wholesome,” Geittmann said.
The playoffs started on May 28 and the Panthers went up against Pius XI, in which they won 9-0. The team then went up against East Troy, in which they won 12-3. Unfortunately, their run would come to an end after losing to New Berlin Eisenhower the next day.
Players liked the energy from the team and hope it can carry it on to next season.
“I think the energy was very positive and helped us in the playoffs,” Zavala said. “Every game next season should be exactly like this.”
The pitching was very good for the Panthers at the end of the season, led by freshmen Luke Breitzman and Mathew Nolan. The hitting was a little inconsistent throughout the season, led by juniors Will Picago and Noah Jacobson and sophomore Vincent Kenney. If the team can hit well and put up a solid amount of runs, they will have the ability to beat any team in the future.
Players also notice the effects of improving the team’s hitting.
“If our team can improve the hitting next season and provide a lot of run support for our pitchers, we will win so many more games,” junior Hunter Isotalo said. “Next year will be a lot of fun, can’t wait to see us all ball out.”
