This year’s prom, “A Night in Rio” has finally come to an end with many successes. Students shared many memories of that night taking photos, eating together, and having fun on the dance floor. Planning the prom was a lot of hard work for the Student Council but turned out to be a great success.
“The advisors are slightly new to being Student Council advisors so we all were kind of in the planning process together and had to piggyback off of everyone because none of us knew what we were really getting into,” junior Student council member Dana Flink said.
This year’s prom was Rio themed which had many cool decorations for the night. At the grand march songs from the movie Rio were playing as students walked through the palm trees, flowers, and vines. This year’s prom king and queen were juniors Charles Niles and Zoe Bartz who were both honored to have an unexpected win.
“I honestly didn’t know who to expect to win. I share a similar friend group with Tyson McCravens so I expected our votes to be split. I also expected the Hajewski twins to have relatively split votes,” Niles said. “I feel like I know a lot of people but I didn’t think I knew enough people to win. It was mostly just excitement once I realized I got it. I looked over and saw Zoe was the prom queen which was also exciting because I feel like she definitely deserved it. I was really glad she won.”
Not only was Bartz excited to win, but her friends and family were just as excited as she was.
“I just kept thinking ‘there’s no way’, but when I saw the crown I was so surprised and beyond grateful. My friends and family ran over to me right away and were cheering me on the whole time, everyone was just so happy for me,” Bartz said.
As the prom night was coming to an end seniors started to reminisce about the night and the memories with everyone on their last prom.
“Knowing that graduation is coming up, prom night started to bring a lot of emotions like happiness but also anxiety. Overall the dance was really fun, I had a great time taking pictures with a lot of different people and dancing,” senior T’Asja Brown said.
Not only did seniors have a great time at prom, but for most juniors this was their first prom. They shared many everlasting moments together and are looking forward to next year’s prom.
“I liked being able to take photos before the dance with my friends and going to Kwik Trip with them,” junior Declan Booth said. “I am looking forward to dressing up for next year’s prom and talking to people I don’t normally talk to that often.”
Overall, the prom night had a great atmosphere that all students enjoyed. It was lots of fun and a great night for everyone included.
“The vibe of prom was really fun and I noticed that everybody came and was on time and everyone seemed to enjoy the food, music, and atmosphere,” Student Council adviser Jeff Schaetszke said. “My favorite memory was seeing everyone on the dance floor and no one sitting down at the table bored. Nobody asked me what time they had to stay till.”
