Over the last five years, energy drinks have become one of the most popular beverages, experiencing a 13 percent increase in sales and being consumed by many Americans daily.
Here at Greendale High School, there are many different types of energy drinks consumed daily, ranging from small amounts of caffeine to some with upwards of 300 mg of caffeine in them. Energy drinks have become the new rave among high schools, with about 15 percent of high school students consuming at least one or more energy drinks per day.
High school students definitely have their favorites.
“My favorite energy drink is the Electric Blue Monster,” senior Easton Gorzalski said. “I’ve spent at most about 35 dollars on energy drinks per week.”
When it comes to caffeine, some people can handle it while others start to get jittery.
“It really just depends on how fast I drink them, but I can handle it for the most part,” sophomore Gavin Jaklich said.
With the craze of energy drinks, some people liked them before the craze and have stuck with that brand since the beginning.
“I have liked white monsters for the longest time and don’t switch around from then,” senior Jimmy Pincolic said.
It’s no doubt that energy drinks have made their mark, and will be around a long time, and will stay popular for years to come.
