The highly anticipated Paranoia game officially started as of April 13, engaging seniors in a thrilling mix of strategy, stealth, and school spirit as they compete to be the last team standing. In order to play, every team had to pay $60 or $10 per person. The total money in the pot is at a total of $1,070, so these teams are fighting hard to take home the money.
There are randomly made brackets posted on Sundays which are found on the games Instagram account. The concept of the game is to eliminate more people on the opposing team by squirting them with water guns, and getting a video or picture of it. The rounds last Monday through Friday, and ties are dealt with on Saturdays.
The prize money was definitely a factor for a lot of students playing.
“I decided to participate in senior assassin because it seemed like a fun activity to play in senior year, and the prize money was a nice bonus to play as well,” senior Thomas Hanlon said.
Paranoia is a big marker that the school year is coming to an end for seniors, and they have shared opinions.
“As a senior in high school, I want to make sure I’m doing everything before school ends. Whether it’s powderpuff, going to all the senior skip days, or paranoia, I just want to do everything “senior” and have a good time with my graduating class,” senior Eva Sula said.
This is supposed to be a fun game, but sometimes people can get a little too competitive.
“I think the game definitely creates a lot of drama, but it is what it is. People shouldn’t take it too seriously,” senior Zayd Cartagena said.
This game is fun, but there definitely is a bit of strategy to it if you want to advance to the next round.
“Our team does lots of research to try to find work schedules and people’s houses to get them out,”senior Casey Lamb said.
People have varying opinions on the drama level effects of the game.
“It definitely creates more drama in the beginning, but I’m sure by the end the effect will be positive and come close as a class,” senior Peter Geittmann said.
Other seniors don’t necessarily look at it as drama.
“In my personal experience, I’ve been able to joke around a lot with my senior class and have a genuinely good time. Even with our opponents, it is all just friendly competition and jokes,” Sula said.
Overall Paranoia may just be a fun, silly game, but it leaves a lasting impression about the risk
