Thanksgiving is approaching, and it is a favorite holiday for many people. People have different traditions, from what they eat to what they do with their family to celebrate.
“My family tradition is that my family and I eat ham and potatoes every year,” senior Sebastian Langenfeld said.”I spend Thanksgiving with my grandparents, my aunts and uncles, as well as my immediate family. I enjoy hearing all the old stories about people in my family that happened decades ago.”
Some of the common foods that people eat during Thanksgiving include turkey, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and casseroles.
“My favorite food to eat during Thanksgiving is definitely turkey and mac and cheese. Turkey is obviously a tradition for my family and me, and Thanksgiving is really the only time that I eat it,” junior Brady Lindholm-Krisman said. “Mac and cheese is also really good, but that is really all I eat during Thanksgiving.”
People also eat different desserts to finish off their meal. Some of those include different pies, like pumpkin, apple, and cherry pies.
“My favorite dessert to eat after my Thanksgiving meal is pumpkin pie. It is a tradition for me; I do not like to eat pumpkin pie in any other season. Pumpkin pie just reminds me of Thanksgiving and gives me that fall feeling.” Langenfeld said.
Another tradition is playing sports with your friends and family. This can be enjoyable for many people, and they have something else to look forward to besides the Thanksgiving food.
“During Thanksgiving, my family and friends rent out U-line, and we get an indoor football field. We then play a flag football game with refs. It is really fun and really competitive, we all take it seriously. It is probably my favorite thing that I do on Thanksgiving besides eating a lot of food,” senior Saad Waqas said.
