January is almost here, and so is the second semester. During these last few weeks, students reflect on the past semester’s good and bad.
Sophomore Eli Dempsey says his favorite part of semester one was being able to take a weight training class.
“Weight training is really fun for me, so when I saw they had a class, I knew I was going to like it,” he said.
He did have classes that gave him trouble, like Chemistry and English.
“My least favorite part was English 10; there was so much work I couldn’t keep up with it all,” he said. But he is pretty excited to be a part of Spanish 3.
It seems like a lot of people like interactive classes, especially in art.
Junior Natalie Pietruszka says she is excited for next semester because she has a lot more art opportunities.
“Right now I am taking drawing, next semester I can move up to the next art class until I get to advanced art,” she said.
Senior Addie VanRoo says her favorite class this first semester was ceramics.
“I loved ceramics because I got to try an art style that I had never attempted before,” she said.
Along with the semester ending comes exams. New this year are exam exemptions. If you maintain a grade of B- average by Dec. 17, you are eligible for an exam exemption in up to two classes. In addition, you need to have five or fewer unexcused absences or tardies.
“I will be exempting English and Physics exams because they are my two hardest classes. I feel most confident about the US study exam since I have a lot of background knowledge in it,” Puetruszka said.
“I think I am going to exempt College Algebra this semester because I feel that I am doing really well in that class; I think it’s not necessary for me to take the exam,” Vanroo said.
All in all, it was a good first semester, and the next one is not too far ahead.
