The college football playoff is set, and many fans are not pleased because some teams have been eliminated while others are not worth. The CFP started by announcing that Indiana, Ohio State, Georgia and Texas Tech would have a first round bye.
This leaves the first round games as Oregon vs James Madison University (JMU, Alabama vs Oklahoma, Ole Miss vs Tulane, and Miami vs Texas A&M.
“Oregon is gonna destroy JMU,” senior Zach McNulty said,“JMU hasn’t won against a good team and they almost lost to Troy in their conference championship.”
The Ohio State Buckeyes are favored to win the national championship with Indiana, Georgia and Texas Tech close behind. Some unexpected teams like JMU and Tulane also made the playoffs because they won their conference.
“I think Ohio State is gonna win the national championship,” Sophomore Crew Jastroch said “They have the best defense in the country and the best player in Jeremiah Smith”
Many fans are unhappy that Notre Dame didn’t make the playoffs. Going into conference championship week Notre Dame was above Miami, but after conference championship week Miami was above Notre Dame even though both teams didn’t play a game.
Notre Dame had 2 losses this season to Texas A&M and Miami, which they lost by 4 points total, while Miami lost to SMU and Louisville. “Norte Dame and Miami shouldn’t have flipped rankings” sophomore Carter Frommell said, “They both didn’t play a game so there is no reason for them to flip rankings.”
Other fans think Alabama shouldn’t have made it because they got destroyed in conference championship weekend and they also lost to an unranked Florida State.
Some fans think they should change the playoff format to not automatically give a spot to 5 conference championship winners because JMU and Tulane don’t stand a chance in the playoffs compared to the other teams. Tulane plays Ole Miss for the second time this season, and the first time they met Ole Miss won by 35. JMU plays Oregon and is expected to lose by 21 points.
“I think instead of JMU and Tulane, Notre Dame and BYU should be in the playoffs,” sophomore Moyses Garay said.
