The Brewers may not have come out with the best start this year but they have surely turned it around in the month as they now stand at first place in the National League Central and have a top five record across the league currently having 357wins and 22 losses.
After coming back from injury in the World Baseball Classic, star left fielder Jackson Chourio has been a big part of helping the Brewers get hot. Chourio suffered a hairline fracture on his left middle finger and missed the start of the season and came back on May 5.
“Chourio has been a big part of the Brewers win streak,” sophomore AJ Rekowski said.
As the season has rolled, pitcher Jacob Misirowski has become dominant, fighting for a Cy Young award along with some of the best pitchers in the league. He had 12 strikeouts against the Cardinals May 25 making for a new season-high and making Misiorowski the first pitcher to reach 100 strikeouts in 2026, while allowing just one run on 11 hits.
It would be tough to find a starter better than Misiorowski through the first two months of the season. On the year, he has a 1.83 ERA and across 64 innings. He has shown to have a nasty pitch loadout as his fastball averages around 99.8 mph frequently reaching 103-104 mph along with his slider then averages 94.5 mph sometimes getting up to 98.6mph.
“He has been absolutely phenomenal, fantastic! The Brewers need to pay him whatever he wants to keep him on the team. Hopefully we can secure him on a multi-year deal,” sophomore Diego Zavala said.
The Brewers left side of the infield has been struggling with offseason acquisition Luis Rengifo is batting .207 and Joey Ortiz batting .195 this season. Ortiz has been great defensively but can’t hit this season.
While the Brewers are currently last in home runs and second last in total bases in the MLB, the pitching staff has the second lowest ERA and the defense is one of the best in the league.
“The Brewers should trade for Nolan Arenado,” sophomore Eli Paul said “The Brewers need to have more hitters on the team they don’t need to worry about defense with one of the best pitching staffs.”
In the month of May the Brewers had sweeps against both the Yankees, Cubs and Cardinals, and it helped that both Christian Yelich and Andrew Vaughn return from injury, as well as the fact that Kyle Harrison only allowed 3 runs in 28 innings pitched through the month of May, and Aaron Asby is currently 9-0 pitching.
“They’ve been dominant in May and throughout the season. Hopefully they can continue it as the season continues,” senior Peter Geittmann said ,”I’m glad to see the full team back and healthy again.”
Fans are excited to watch the Brewers as the year continues, and hope they can make a deep run in this year’s playoffs.
