The NBA Conference Finals and the opening stretch of the NBA Finals have everyone excited with the idea that a new team will be crowned champion. With the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks both making electric playoff runs, there are many different ideas about who will win it all.
Game one is already in the books with the Knicks beating the Spurs 105-95. Despite this many still think the Spurs will win.
“I think the Spurs will go all the way because of the young core that they have, Wemby, Castle, and Dylan Harper are all under the age of 23. Especially Dylan Harper, who has shown up big so far in the playoffs despite being a rookie.” senior Zavier Castillo said.
That young core has been the story of the postseason. Players like Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant have really stepped up. Harper currently has 251 playoff points, having just surpassed David Robinson, who held the previous franchise rookie record with 243 playoff points.
“I think the Spurs will win in 6 because of how good their players are, but like we’ve already seen in Game 1, the Knicks are still looking dangerous and I think people are counting them out too early,” freshman Moiz Waqas said.
The Knicks have been the hottest team in the league since April, and their momentum hasn’t slowed. They have been dominant this offseason, currently riding a franchise-record 12-game winning streak. They hold a 13-2 total playoff record after defeating the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
“I think everyone is thinking too high of the Spurs . They are inexperienced and I think the Knicks will take advantage of that. Brunson also looked really good at the end of game 1 so if he keeps that up I think the Knicks will win in 6,” sophomore Aayan Farukh said.
