Save June 14, on your calendars because UFC Freedom 250 is coming soon to the one and only White House, in Washington D.C. It will be the first ever sports event to take place in the White House, where fighters try to make the greatest fight card in UFC history.
UFC is a professional mixed martial arts promotion consisting of the greatest athletes who fight in combat sports like wrestling, boxing, jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, judo, sambo, and muay thai. These fighters compete in an octagon, following the rules when in the octagon. A winner could be crowned if there is a knockout, submission, decision, or disqualification. Many students in GHS enjoy watching these fights.
“I watch UFC because it’s been one of the hottest sports currently, gaining millions and millions of new citizens watching on Paramount Plus,” junior Michael Bode said.
UFC Freedom 250 consists of seven fights, with superstars such as Ilia Topuria, Alex Pereira, Sean O’Malley, Michael Chandler, and more. This fight card consists of two title fights, a lightweight championship and an interim heavyweight championship. Many fans at GHS discuss which fight will be the best fight.
“I think Ilia Topuria vs Justin Gaethje will be the best fight because the fight will demonstrate a lot of boxing, as the two fighters will give it their all to try to win the lightweight championship,” sophomore Aaron Rekowski said. “My favorite fighter is Sean O’Malley and he is fighting against Aiemann Zahabi. I do think Zahabi will win the match because he has better boxing than Zahabi and will knock him out in the fourth or fifth round.”
For the first time in history, a sports event is occurring at the White House. President Donald Trump has agreed to host a UFC event and many students have mixed opinions about the White House holding a UFC event on the 14.
“Honestly for sports fans like me, I find it pretty cool to have a sporting event in the White House because it is a one chance opportunity to see and experience yourself in the one and only White House,” junior Gabe Anderson said.
Overall, fans are excited for UFC Freedom 250, as fighters are ready to give their all for fans to enjoy the event. There will be Knockouts, submissions, decisions, underdogs winning, and potentially new champions that will be crowned in UFC Freedom 250 in the one and only White House in Washington D.C.
