A new student led club centered around faith, wisdom, and community has started at GHS, Advised by Speech and Theatre teacher Jeff Schaetzke is
The GHS Bible Study Club founded by seniors Addison Patneaude, and Kyla Bassler started this winter and meets on Thursdays after school with around 20-25 people that come every week.
Before students were able to bring just their bible and possible study supplies to room 106, lots of work and preparation was needed.
“In terms of why we started all of this, my youth group and youth pastors are big on spreading the gospel to schools. So that gave us the idea to do that at our school too.” Patneaude said. “The idea was simple but I never really knew the amount of preparation and commitment it would take to get it fully started.”
The club does not have a running or counting member amount, but everyone is welcome every Thursday after school in room 106 from 2:50-3:30. You should bring a bible, and study supplies like a highlighter or post-its if you’d like as well.
“We originally wanted to do it during flex/the school day so more students could have access to it without it conflicting with after-school activities.” Patneaude said. “But after speaking with administrators on that idea, it was made clear to us that it wasn’t going to be possible during the day, so we settled for after school.”
Club members enjoy the freedom and inclusiveness it offers along with the low commitment aspect to it that is different from other clubs.
“My favorite part of the club is how I can be myself and practice/study however I want. There aren’t any rules or obligations for anyone,” senior Jack Grunske said.
Despite students having other after school and extracurricular activities, club members are optimistic and excited to see what else entails in the future.
“It is a great place to grow in your faith, and if you aren’t a Christian, to learn about what the Bible says,” Bassler said. “There is a God who loves you and created you, and this club is an amazing way to grow a relationship with him!”
