Valentines’ Day is around the corner, and students love to celebrate in many different ways. Some females celebrate with their girlfriends by hanging out and doing activities together.
“I hang out with friends, watch movies, and bake food. They all come over and we watch romance movies,” sophomore Lily Anderson said.
When girls hang out with their friends they call it Galentine’s Day.
“I do Galentine’s with my girls and we usually just hang out and watch movies.I go out for dinner and play games with my friends and family,” junior Ava Russell said.
Some students like to keep it chill on Valentine’s Day with their boyfriends or girlfriends.
“I go out for dinner on Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend. I prefer receiving gifts because valentines day is about girls,” senior Eden Schuk said.
“My boyfriend comes to pick me up at 8pm with flowers in the passenger seat. On the way to dinner he gives me another gift. We go out to eat at Carsons. After dinner we go to a movie and get ice cream to end the night,”senior T’Asia Brown said.
Students enjoy gifts that are meaningful rather than gifts that everyone gets for Valentine’s Day.
“I prefer gift giving over receiving gifts because it makes me happy to see my friends love a gift that I gave them. It’s too much on one day when its something that should be shown everyday. I think remembering something important about me and making sure they act on it is bigger than a big gift,” Anderson said.
Schuk agrees that smaller gifts make sure the other person really knows who you are.
“Instead of big gifts I would rather get small sentimentals gifts that are homemade. I just think they are more meaningful when you think about the person.” She said
Russell says Valentine’s Day is a little overrated because if you have someone you can spend time with there shouldn’t be a specific day where you make them feel special.
Schuk disagrees, “Valentine’s Day is not overrated because I like to spend quality time with my people.”
