There are many different posters around GHS for things like clubs, awareness, positive talk, and events. And recently posters have appeared inside bathroom stalls called Toilet Talk which include things like fun facts, important dates, trivia, and more.
The Toilet Talk offers light, feel-good news to everyone while they are using the bathroom.
The idea came from librarian Danielle Brannan’s previous school that she used to work for.
“So far, I’ve only heard great things about the Toilet Talk, though I am absolutely open to suggestions for improvement! I think students and staff enjoy seeing something fun and different that changes monthly. I hope it brings a little joy and a little knowledge,” Brannan said.
For the month of February, a grammar lesson was included which talked about plurals and possessives. There were also facts about the Olympics, the Brewers, Black and Women’s History Month, and a quiz question.
There is always a quiz question at the bottom of the poster, and a teacher to tell the answer to and possibly win a prize. This month the question was “When do you use semicolons to separate items in a list?” And the teacher who gives prizes is Erin Schwane.
The Toilet Talk has a mix of creators.
“Each month the creators change a little bit, but Ms. Holschbach and I are always involved. Sometimes we have a group of students (usually from Sources) to help us create the Toilet Talk, other times we create it on our own, and occasionally, we have teachers who will ask to help or add something. It’s always best when we have students help create it,” Brannan said, “Students always help us hang them throughout the building, and we appreciate them.”
Students seem to enjoy the posters and find them entertaining.
“I often look at the toilet talk when it’s right there. The important dates section is my favorite, so I know what is going on in the school,” sophomore Claire Endter said, “I like that there are different themes every month, and I hope they continue to be made.”
