For the first time, the Student Council organized a Spring Break pep rally, which members thought was a big success because it included people from all grades, and the crowd seemed to enjoy it.
“Overall, it was a success, the audience seemed to enjoy it, and I think it should be a yearly thing,” sophomore Sam Eggert said.
The pep rally started with 4 teams of students and teachers competing in various events, such as a basketball game, Hungry Hippo, and a mummy rap competition.
“I would add the game where the teams need to stack large boxes to win. It has both an objective winner and a higher level of difficulty. I would also love to see either one of the numbers from the musical or an acapella performance,” science teacher Julie Hahm said.
At the end of all the competitions, the team of teachers won, consisting of Hahm, Sara Derrick, Andrew Lasch, and Michael Jones.
The highest placing student team consisted of freshmen Thruston Robash, sophomore Gabe Gamboa, junior Rylee McDonnell, and senior Sophie Latus.
“I think we performed well and had a great time getting to work with each other and really had a lot of fun,” Gamboa said.
After the student vs. teacher competitions ended, more teachers came out to play each other in lightning, rock, paper, scissors, and a ping-pong competition. Michael Jones won.
“It was very entertaining. I was really hoping Mr.Bauhs won, but he sadly lost in the lightning competition,” sophomore Michael Hemme said.
Student Council president Zayd Cartagena hopes the pep rally will encourage students to join the Student Council, as they came up with it from scratch, and there are many other opportunities, such as serving as an emcee.
“The most difficult portion of the pep rally was the fact that it was a brand new idea. We’ve never had a pep rally like this before, so we were basically starting from scratch…I also took a big leading role in planning and putting together this one, so it was definitely a lot of work to coordinate something for the whole school to do.” Cartagena said.
A spirit week and a pep rally are among the best parts of the school year. All the fun that comes with it is always something to look forward to for next year.
